First Post on the Blog!

Here I am almost 3 weeks post amputation and I am finally setting up our boy Meeko’s blog! I will be writing weekly to bi-weekly posts about Meeko’s life on three legs. I’m still new to blogging and am still learning how to customize this site and use all its cool features. Stay tuned for more!!

My name is Kayla. I have a 4.5 year old Leonberger named Meeko, who is a certified therapy dog. My boy was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma on 9-16-12. His right rear leg was amputated on 10-1-12 in an effort to fight the cancer. He has been a tripawd for almost a year and a half. Meeko is fed a raw diet. I am interested in holistic health care and nutrition.

  1. Welcome Meeko and family! What a beautiful dog.
I’m eagerly awaiting your stories and photos…

You are in the right place for your new Tripawd. The people here are amazing and very generous with their information. The forums have a lot of information for you too.

    Take care! Glad you’re here!

  2. We have just adopted a rescue dog from Georgia, Buddy. Buddy had his front left leg amputated after it was severely injured. We pick Buddy up tomorrow and we can’t wait. The thing is, everyone we’ve told looks at us like we’re crazy “why would you ever want a dog that only has 3 legs”. So, I’m here to get some advice as to how to respond to these clueless people once we get Buddy home…

    1. I applaud you for having the warm heart to take a tripawd into your lives. Its sad that so many people would say no to getting a dog simply because it has 3 legs. If anyone ever asks me why I would want a dog with 3 legs I would tell them its because dogs with 3 legs are nicer than people with 2!

  3. Wooo hooo! Welcome to the dogblogosphere Meeko! I love your picture up top, you are quite a cool looking dawg. Can’t wait to read about your adventures.

  4. Hi! I can’t wait to hear updates from you. My Pyr Tahoe just had surgery yesterday and won’t come home for 2-3 days. Any advice for the initial days would be great!

    1. My best advice would be to have a bunch of alternatives to regular dog food on hand!! Meeko had such a big problem with appetite loss. It was VERY hard to get food into him. My second bit of advice would be too check Tahoe’s temperature every 12 hours just to monitor him. I hope everything with surgery went well and that he is home resting now!

  5. That’s very cool! I never set up a blog for Lucy. I really enjoy reading everyone’s blog and commenting. I look forward to reading Meeko’s adventures. Mary, Lucy’s mom
